LinkedIn Improves Accessibility With The Assistance of Microsoft's Immersive Reader

LinkedIn has made its platform more user-friendly by using Microsoft’s Immersive Reader. In recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Month and National Disability Employment Awareness Month, the service claims it’s giving customers more methods to consume articles and bulletins. This appears to be especially valuable at a time when LinkedIn is emphasizing longer-form content.

The Immersive Reader symbol will appear in every post and newsletter, providing access to a variety of accessibility options. Text-to-speech software can read articles aloud. According to LinkedIn, “distinguishing between words that are spelled the same but pronounced differently makes it easier for auditory learners and those with visual impairments to consume and process content.” The tool is available in over 60 languages. Similarly, Immersive Reader powers real-time translation in over 100 languages.

Content Isolation is one of the other qualities. To help individuals focus on reading, this isolates the core content of an article or email from everything else on the screen. Immersive Reader may also isolate a line or two at a time. It also has a feature known as Syllable Splitting. According to LinkedIn, this helps users grasp and pronounce more complicated words by breaking them down into simpler components.

Over the last few years, Immersive Reader has found its way into a number of Microsoft products and services. It has long been accessible in Office and Minecraft: Education Edition. Adding the feature to LinkedIn should make it easier for those with dyslexia and other problems to utilize the network.
