The Elon Musk-directed platform X, previously known as Twitter, has now introduced a new feature that allows verified users to block unverified accounts from replying to their posts. The platform’s chairman claims that this feature will help cut down on spambots. For a while, X has allowed its users the option to limit the ability to reply to a post by accounts mentioned, followers, or by everyone. With this modification, premium users will have more control over who can comment on their posts.
The Elon Musk-led microblogging platform has placed a paywall on many features since its acquisition. This includes limiting the number of postings that a user can view on the platform, limiting direct messages, and even allowing users to monetize their content. Also, it is said that X’s subscription-based verification mechanism aids in the platform’s ability to filter out bots. There exists an argument that restricting responses to accounts that are verified by payment, phone number, or even official proof of identity could reduce harassment and false information.
If subscribed from an Android or iOS device, X charges Rs 900 per month. The same advantages are currently available to web users for just Rs 650 per month. A blue tick mark, the ability to modify posts, a lighter ad experience, longer posts, and other exclusive features are available to premium subscribers only. Users can also use SMS-based two-factor verification, exchange encrypted direct messages, set an NFT as a profile picture, and even hide the blue checkmark with the subscription.
Additionally, it is said that the platform will soon add a number of new features, including the ability to accept payments within apps and voice and video calling capabilities. These services are also likely to be available only to verified users.
