Before we talk about the Panasonic BS1H, let’s start from how it unveiled the BGH1, its first box-style camera, in 2020. The internals of the popular Micro Four Thirds GH5S were rehoused in a body better suitable for video production workloads. And now, almost precisely one year later, Panasonic BS1H has been unveiled. This latest product from the firm, like its predecessor, takes an existing Panasonic camera, the full-frame S1H, and puts it in a new body.
The BS1H is powered by a 24.2-megapixel CMOS sensor capable of recording footage at up to 6K resolution. It can record 6K video at up to 24 frames per second, 5.4K at 30 frames per second with a 3:2 crop, and 5.9K at 30 frames per second with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Panasonic says that the BS1H’s sensor has a dynamic range of more than 14 stops, and that the addition of an optical low pass filter and a Dual Native ISO function helps eliminate moire and digital noise.
However, if you’re searching for a box-style camera for yourself, you’ll want one because of the additional connectivity choices the format provides. The BS1H is no slouch in the front. It features a USB 3.1 Type-C port, an HDMI Type-A port, and a 3G serial digital interface. A multi-camera system may also be created by connecting 12 BS1H cameras together. There are also the standard 3.5mm and XLR microphone connectors, as well as a LAN port. It also has twin SD card ports for trouble-free redundancy. When it is released in November, Panasonic BS1H will be priced at $3,500.
