LinkedIn is testing a new generative AI capability for job seekers. The company is now developing a new function that will produce brief, cover letter-style communications that candidates may submit to hiring managers via the platform. The new feature is currently being rolled out to the site’s premium customers.
Users will now have the option to “Let AI draft a message to the hiring team” under available opportunities on the platform’s jobs page with the upgrade. According to the firm, the function uses “information from your profile, the hiring manager’s profile, the job description, and the company of interest” to build a “highly personalized” response.
The message is written in the style of the first few phrases of a cover letter. The AI-written message that users read, however, will most likely differ depending on how much information is on your LinkedIn profile. According to the company, “customization is still important,” and users should double-check and alter their wording before sending it.
LinkedIn, owned by OpenAI partner Microsoft, has experimented with various generative AI capabilities. The platform has incorporated AI writing ideas to profiles, as well as “collaborative articles” that employ AI-written material.
