Google Bard Now Supports More Languages and Can Generate AI Images

On February 1, Google Bard received a significant upgrade that grants the artificial intelligence (AI)-driven chatbot several new features. Its new capability to generate images from text inputs is the most noteworthy upgrade. It is still unable to generate outputs from image to image, though. The internet giant also said that Google Bard will now support more than 40 languages and that it has been expanded to more than 230 countries and territories. The update

about the Google Bard Advanced, powered by Gemini Ultra, requiring a premium membership, was made just one day earlier during Google’s quarterly earnings call.

Google announced the update in a blog post that included an overview of the AI chatbot’s updates. Given that several of its competitors, like Baidu’s Ernie Bot, Microsoft Copilot, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus, have had this capability for some time, the company’s late but significant inclusion of the AI image generator is noteworthy. Imagen 2, the same model that powers Google’s other AI products like under-testing ImageFX and Vertex AI, is the source of Google Bard’s image-generating capabilities.

Features of Google Bard’s AI image generator

Text input from prompts up to multiple pages in length can be handled by the new AI image generator. The generated images, according to Google, will be wide-ranging, photorealistic, and of excellent quality. The chatbot declines to respond to any requests for it to produce images of real people, which would lower the likelihood of deepfakes (the production of artificial intelligence-generated images of people and objects that are real). To make images created through Google Bard distinguishable as AI-generated, Google has additionally employed SynthID. In August 2023, Google’s DeepMind division revealed SynthID, a watermarking and AI-generated image detection tool.

The company claimed at the time of launch that “this technology embeds a digital watermark directly into the pixels of an image, making it imperceptible to the human eye, but detectable for identification.” Google has added image-generating capabilities to Bard and increased its reach to over 230 nations and territories. It now supports over 40 languages, including Urdu, Arabic, Bengali, and Tamil. It supported only English before and was available in 170 countries.

Additionally, the tech giant has included its “double-check” feature in every language. Double checking enables users to see the parts of the response that are obtained from the internet together with citations.

Additionally, it emphasizes the passages without any kind of reference. This feature was implemented to minimize instances of AI generating inaccurate responses. With these enhancements, Google aims to stay at the forefront of technological innovation, offering users a diverse and reliable platform for interactive and multilingual communication.

As the AI landscape continues to evolve, Google Bard’s latest capabilities underscore the ongoing efforts to push the boundaries of what AI-powered chatbots can achieve.
