This holiday season, the first GMC Hummer EVs will be delivered to their new owners. GMC CEO Duncan Aldred has revealed that delivery of the Hummer Edition 1 — the all-electric vehicle model that will cost buyers back more than $112,000 — will begin in December, according to reports. The conference also disclosed that the Edition 1 has an EPA range of 329 miles, which is somewhat less than the 350-mile range that the carmaker was expecting.
The three motors in GMC‘s four-ton electric truck produce 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 ft/lb of torque, allowing it to go from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3 seconds. In addition, the vehicle can pull up to 7,500 pounds and carry up to 1,300 pounds. It is based on the Ultium battery pack, a platform designed by General Motors to electrify dozens of cars across its brands in the future years.
The Edition 1 Hummer EV, along with Rivian’s R1T, will be among the first electric trucks on the market when it begins selling next month. Tesla is also developing an electric Cybertruck, although the company pushed its release date to August 2022. According to reports, more than 80% of bookings for the Hummer EV are for the Edition 1, although additional variants of the electrified vehicle will arrive in 2023. Some of them EVs will be less expensive and have longer ranges. In addition, GMC will begin delivery of the SUV version of the Hummer EV in 2023.
