Anthropic’s Claude AI assistant is getting a new feature that will gives users more influence over how the chatbot writes for them.
The new feature from Anthropic allows you to customize the way your Claude AI chatbot writes using a variety of pre-set and customized writing styles. You’ll be able to personalize the AI’s conversation to suit your needs rather than having to specify how you want it to react to each prompt.
There are three preset styles available: Explanatory for educational comments that require more depth, Concise for more brief and direct responses, and Formal for “clear and polished” text. Claude can also create unique styles that are trained to imitate other types of writing if the preset options don’t meet your needs.
This custom style option is the most striking feature. By uploading samples in the tone and manner you want and explaining how you want Claude to write, you can construct your own unique communication styles for Claude to imitate. You can gradually refine and enhance the descriptions to fine-tune the AI’s custom writing skills.
“Whether you’re a developer writing technical documentation, a marketer crafting specific brand guidelines, or a product team planning extensive project requirements, Claude can adapt to your preferred way of writing,” reads Anthropic’s latest blog post. “With styles, Claude adapts to your unique context and communication choices, helping you achieve more while working in a way that feels natural to you.”
However, this update raises questions about how customizable AI can change communication in creative and professional settings, especially in cases of legal documents and sensitive communication, where tone and voice are crucial.
It should also be noted that Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, and ChatGPT all offer voice and tone customization.
