Adobe has just broadened the ways graphic designers could utilize the company’s internal AI models with the release of new Firefly tools for Photoshop and Illustrator.
With a few brief prompts, creative professionals can now use Adobe’s new features on Photoshop to describe what they want and get AI generated images, or even textures, that would normally take hours to create.
As Adobe steps up its AI efforts, the company has made it a point to reiterate that it is taking a “creator-friendly approach”. A recent post on its website states, “Adobe is determined to be a trusted partner for creators in the era ahead and integrating technology into our tools in a way that is respectful and supportive of the creative community. We’re committed to taking a creator-friendly approach and developing AI in accordance with the company’s AI Ethics principles of accountability, responsibility and transparency.”
Photoshop also has a new Selection Brush Tool that allows you to brush over areas to select them without using the Quick Mask mode. Users can utilize the tool to apply filters or fills easily, as well as for compositing and selecting.
As for Adobe Illustrator, the vector-based design and drawing program has a new feature called “Generative Shape Fill”. Users of Adobe Illustrator can now type in any shape and have it drawn and filled in using generative AI. The new Firefly AI model enhances two features: Style Reference, which assists users in creating outputs that resemble pre-existing styles, and Text to Pattern, which can be used to create customized scalable vector patterns.
In addition to generative AI, this Illustrator update brings new features like Dimension, which adds sizing information for projects automatically, Mockup, which allows designers to see their designs on items such as clothing and product packaging while automatically resizing the artwork to fit the object’s edges, and Retype, which lets users edit static text in images.
