DuckDuckGo, Google’s privacy-focused competitor, has been developing its own browser. The DuckDuckGo browser, which was first accessible in open beta on the Mac late last year, is now available on Windows beta. According to DuckDuckGo, this is “our most requested product for years.”
DuckDuckGo is, of course, the default search engine here. However, the browser has certain extra capabilities, such as the Duck Player, which prevents YouTube from providing targeted adverts and user-tracked suggestions. YouTube will still identify this as a fresh view, but the browser will prohibit any tracking or information that might contribute to your advertising profile.
DuckDuckGo also claims to provide a better ad-blocking experience. It claims that, in addition to preventing adverts and cookies, the browser will also clean up the white space that regular ad blockers leave behind. Other features known to Mac beta users include password management, automated cookie pop-up handling, and email protection.
DuckDuckGo originally demonstrated its desktop web browser in late 2021 and launched an initial Mac beta in late 2022. Windows is the most recent platform to have an official app. And for users who don’t use Mac or Windows, DuckDuckGo is accessible in Google Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox search engine support. There is also an app for iOS and Android.
