According to reports, OpenAI intends to develop a native web browser that uses artificial intelligence (AI). The AI company seems to be discussing with a number of website and app developers about its plans to compete with Google Chrome through its browser platform, according to the report. Additionally, it has been stated that the AI company is in discussion with Samsung to include its AI function in the latter’s devices. These advancements, along with the recently unveiled SearchGPT capability, may allow OpenAI to compete with Google in a number of ways.
Those familiar with the matter provide some insight into OpenAI’s intentions. In order to provide users with an AI-powered experience, OpenAI intends to create a native web browser that can be integrated with ChatGPT.
OpenAI has discussed the web browser’s development with several website and app developers, including Condé Nast, Redfin, Eventbrite, and Priceline. Deals to power search functions for websites related to travel, food, real estate, and retail were also apparently being discussed. The goal appears to be to expand the functionality of OpenAI’s SearchGPT feature.
The report also pointed out two key reasons behind OpenAI’s decision to develop its own browser. Firstly, OpenAI aims to control the primary gateway through which people use the web in order to expand ChatGPT’s user base. Secondly, the company is rumored to soon launch a feature called ‘Operator,’ an AI agent capable of completing complex tasks on the web. As part of this, OpenAI prefers not to depend on third-party browsers to grant permissions for the AI agent’s operations.
The prospect of enabling AI capabilities on Samsung-made devices has also been taken into account by OpenAI. It is said that the partnership it has with Apple is comparable to the one that is now being offered. If this deal is finalized, the AI company will be powering AI capabilities on both of the main rivals to Google Pixel smartphones.
In addition, the ChatGPT creator is competing with Google in the search engine arena with SearchGPT. The feature, marked by a globe-shaped web icon within ChatGPT, allows the chatbot to generate responses by sourcing information directly from websites on the internet, rather than relying on its internal knowledge base.
