Meta has announced a few exciting updates to Facebook after its IRL event in Austin. The company will test an Explore tab, video tab, AI features, and more in hopes of attracting a younger audience to the platform.
The company is testing a new “Explore” tab that shows content from Pages you aren’t following based on your interests.
“Explore is designed to show you content that doesn’t just entertain, but helps you dive deeper into your interests, get inspired by real people and expert communities and take the next step. It’s unique to each person’s interests, and we use a wide variety of signals to power our algorithm so that your content will reflect the things you’re into,” Meta says in a newsroom post.
The next significant feature is the video tab. This tab will now contain all of Facebook’s video content. Users will be able to “seamlessly watch the best short-form, long-form, and live videos in a single experience” thanks to this new tab that will stream content on a full-screen video player.
Additionally, the company introduced fresh new AI capabilities to streamline the process of creating video-based ads. A tool called Video Expansion will help resize video creative assets into various aspect ratios. In the past, to reach all audience touchpoints, advertisers had to either manually edit the videos or record them in multiple formats. But the tool gets rid of all of those hassles. According to Meta, this tool is compatible with Facebook and Instagram.
Meta is also integrating an “Imagine Yourself” AI image-creation tool which is meant to enhance the platform’s creative potential. Using static photos, this tool can produce animated adverts for Instagram Reels. But the tool just animates what is already in the image, rather than generating completely new scenes or camera angles.
These new capabilities are being gradually implemented in different US cities, with some currently available and others undergoing testing.
