Instagram’s broadcast channels, a one-way chat capability similar to Telegram, will soon be more widely available. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on his own channel that the functionality is now being rolled out internationally. It was formerly restricted to a few chosen creators.
Users can utilize broadcast channels to deliver messages to their followers, who can comment to them and vote in polls but cannot answer directly. Zuckerberg has been utilizing his channel to provide news and updates about Meta’s products.
Creators can publish photos, videos, and audio recordings in addition to text updates. They can also ask people to become collaborators on their channel. On his YouTube channel, Zuckerberg previously had a public conversation with Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri.
Last week, Meta introduced channels to WhatsApp for the first time. For the time being, just a few organizations have access to the tool, but WhatsApp plans to expand its availability in the coming months. Meta intends to provide channels to both Facebook and Messenger.
Meanwhile, Meta is working on a text-based “decentralized social network” to compete with Twitter. According to reports, while this will be a standalone service that connects to the networking protocol that runs Mastodon, you will be able to log in using your Instagram account to complete your profile.
