Google Brings Its AI Chatbot Bard To Apps Like Gmail, Docs, Maps, and YouTube

It was in March that Google unveiled Bard, an artificial intelligence chatbot. It was Google’s response to OpenAI’s enormously successful ChatGPT. However, Bard’s AI was less advanced than ChatGPT’s. It appeared less competent and less conversational.  Within a few weeks, Google made improvements to the tool,  but ChatGPT persisted as the chatbot that garnered the most interest from users. Google launched a strategy on Tuesday to surpass ChatGPT by linking Bard to some of its most well-liked consumer services, including Gmail, Docs, and YouTube. With the addition of the additional functionalities, Google moved closer to integrating Bard into its large ecosystem of online services.ChatGPT has drawn got attention than Bard. According to data from data research company Similarweb, ChatGPT had roughly 1.5 billion desktop and mobile web visits in August, more than three times as many as Google’s A.I. tool and other rivals. Following OpenAI’s March launch of ChatGPT plug-ins, which let the chatbot access up-to-date information and third-party services from other companies like Expedia, Instacart, and OpenTable, Google has now released what it calls Bard Extensions.

The most recent upgrades from Google include Flights, Hotels, and Maps so that users may explore travel and transportation. This is an attempt by Google to replicate some of the features of its search engine. By enabling users to inquire about emails that are missed and the key points of a document, Bard may also get closer to being a more customized assistant for users. AI chatbots are well recognized for providing both true and incorrect information, a phenomenon known as “hallucinations.” By redesigning the “Google It” button present on Bard’s website, which lets users conduct Google searches on the questions they ask the chatbot, Google believes that it has brought about progress in resolving those issues. The button will now verify Bard’s responses once again. Google will highlight text in green and link to a different website that provides further information when it has high confidence in a claim and is able to substantiate it. When Google is unable to support a claim with evidence, the content is instead highlighted in orange.

The Pathways Language Model 2 underlying AI for Bard was also upgraded by Google. Additionally, Google now allows users to share Bard talks with one another so that they may view the replies and ping the chatbot with more inquiries. Bard is accessible to users in more than 200 countries and territories, although Google still refers to it as an “experiment” rather than a finished product. Although he declined to comment on how other Google services were using this kind of data, Jack Krawczyk, Google’s product lead for Bard, stated Bard would preserve users’ privacy.
