Sony’s latest soundbars have been geared toward high-end consumers, but the company now offers something for individuals who just want to upgrade from their TV’s built-in speakers. The business has announced the HT-S400 soundbar, which has a few gimmicks while remaining under $300. While it is a 2.1-channel system, it has simulated surround sound (S-Force Pro Front Surround, in Sony jargon) to give more immersive audio for your movies and shows. It’s also a rather powerful system for the class, with a rather hefty 130W wireless subwoofer adding to a total output of 330W.
Due to settings integration and wireless audio capability, the bar, naturally, enables tight integration with modern Sony TVs. Other Bluetooth audio can also be streamed. And, while it’s unclear how well Sony’s clarity- and voice-optimized speaker designs perform in practice, you might welcome the HDMI ARC and optical audio choices.
In April 2022, the HT-S400 will be released. That’s a long time to wait for a soundbar like this, but it could be worth it if you reside in the Sony ecosystem or just want an option to lower-end soundbars from other companies.
