AMD is releasing its Ryzen 6000 laptop processors, the first to feature Microsoft’s new Pluton security chip. It’s a new security chip meant to deliver Xbox-like protection to Windows PCs by securing hardware and cryptographic keys.

Fortunately, AMD is the first to ship Pluton-based CPUs, beating Intel and Qualcomm to the punch. Pluton is designed to prevent the usage of new and developing attack vectors that are often used to hack PCs.

Microsoft has taken what it has learned from Xbox, which includes physical assault defenses, and applied it to Windows PCs in an attempt to provide comparable security. Pluton is essentially a development of the CPU-integrated Trusted Platform Module (TPM).

“Ryzen 6000 series will be the first PC processors that integrate the Microsoft Pluton security processor,” AMD CEO Lisa Su said during a press presentation at CES 2022. “Our co-development work with Microsoft eliminates entire attack vectors on notebooks, better protecting critical data like system credentials, user identities, encryption keys, and personal information.”

Pluton will be integrated into AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 6000 series processors, which will be available in a range of laptops. With these new CPUs, AMD promises up to 69 percent quicker video editing, more than twice the 3D rendering speed, and more than double the 1080p gaming performance.
