Cognition AI has unveiled Devin AI, the world’s first AI Software Engineer. This AI chatbot is making waves because it is the first of its kind. While chatbots like GPT-4 and Gemini can help engineers write code, users ultimately have to carry out the final execution on their own. With Devin, the chatbot can write the code, fix bugs, and launch the project, all with a single prompt.
Devin was evaluated on the SWE-bench benchmark (a benchmark for assessing large language models on real software challenges found on GitHub) where it performed better than previous state-of-art models like GPT-4, Claude 2, etc.
Devin has also been put to the test by having it complete jobs on Upwork. According to Cognition’s CEO Scott Wu, Devin can learn how to use unfamiliar technologies, build and deploy apps end to end, debug code, train its own AI model, and much more.
Devin can be used to carry out intricate engineering assignments involving numerous decisions. It can identify context, correct errors, and learn from said corrections. Furthermore, the creators have given the AI the ability to actively work along with the user. It provides real-time progress updates, accepts feedback, and collaborates with the user on design decisions as necessary.“Devin is a tireless, skilled teammate, equally ready to build alongside you or independently complete tasks for you to review. With Devin, engineers can focus on more interesting problems, and engineering teams can strive for more ambitious goals,” states Cognition AI in the company’s latest blog post.
Devin’s access is limited at the moment, with only a handful of people having had the chance to test out the chatbot by making it build websites and even simple games. Devin has received glowing reviews from these users, who have claimed that it far surpasses its counterparts.
