Amazon has dabbled in AI a few times now. The tech giant has already rolled out several gen AI features like product listing text creation, AI-generated ad backgrounds, and review highlights.
This recent update is catered toward sellers who already have standalone websites for their products. They only need to enter their website’s URL, and Amazon’s AI will break down the information within the linked site to create high-quality product listings for them in no time.
The company aims to save sellers time by automating more and more of the listing process using GenAI. This means that shortly, customers will be seeing and interacting with a mostly AI-generated Amazon feed. “As we expand the breadth of attributes that we can automatically generate and further improve the quality of generated content, we keep reducing the effort needed for sellers to create high-quality product detail pages that resonate with customers” reads the official Amazon page. It also mentions how most of the AI innovations put out by Amazon have been met with positive feedback from sellers.
However, the new feature is not free from criticism, as the increased incorporation of AI has reportedly led to a rise in instances of counterfeit products. While Amazon intends for its GenAI to simplify tasks for its sellers, the same benefits also extend to fake sellers. Amazon has taken measures to tackle the issue, like introducing the Counterfeit Crimes Unit back in 2020.
“We have a number of controls in place to detect infringing content. In addition, copyright owners can notify us of alleged infringement, and we will investigate and take the appropriate actions.” An Amazon representative told PC mag in response to concerns regarding counterfeits.
