According to a blog post published by Meta, the company will now allow Facebook users to establish numerous personal accounts and swap between them without signing out and entering back in. Meta is conceptually embracing finstas, but for Facebook.
“Whether you’re new to Facebook or a longtime user, you may want to keep your personal and professional relationships separate, or you may want to keep one profile tied to a community you’re a part of and another profile just for friends,” Meta wrote. “Creating multiple personal profiles allows you to easily organize who you share your information with and what content you see for different aspects of your life.” Consider one profile for the gourmet scene you enjoy and another for keeping in touch with relatives and family.”
You will be able to have up to four other Facebook profiles. You may switch between them by tapping your profile picture on the bottom right of the toolbar. However, additional profiles have certain limits to begin with; the Messenger app won’t support them, and services like Facebook Dating, Facebook Marketplace, and Professional Mode aren’t available from your extra profiles for the time being.
Meta said it has been testing the feature for a year and that “we heard from people that clearer organization of friends, groups, and interests helps them feel freer to engage with the audience they believe is most relevant.” These are the same reasons that have always encouraged individuals to create other profiles on Instagram or Facebook, and with this move, it’s a lot easier to do so. (However, according to Meta’s blog post, your extra profiles cannot mimic anybody else and must follow Facebook’s community guidelines of not misrepresenting your identity.)
The functionality will be available internationally beginning Thursday and will be available for “the next few months.” When you return to the app to create a Facebook finsta, you may see a new logo.
